Leave a gift in your will

1 in 5 people will get a lung condition in their lifetime. And that's not good enough.

Over 1/3 of our funding comes from gifts in wills – they’re absolutely critical to our work. Your gift can help us achieve our vision for a world where everyone breathes with healthy lungs.

A gift in your will to Asthma + Lung UK could:

Fund vital research

We drive life-changing research and innovation. We’ll ensure no stone is left unturned when it comes to finding a treatment, cure or a better way to diagnose lung disease.

Help people access support + health advice

We enable everyone to live well with a lung condition – by giving the best possible support and information so people can stay well and out of hospital.

Drive our campaigns for people with lung conditions

We fight to make lung health a priority, to make sure everyone has access to high-quality care, and to tackle toxic air pollution.

If you leave a gift to charity in your will, it won't count towards the total taxable value of your estate. You can also reduce the Inheritance Tax Rate on the rest of your estate from 40% to 36%, if you leave at least 10% of your ‘net estate’ to a charity.

The rules are complex, so to it's best to speak to a professional will writer or solicitor about the options available to you.

For information about tax on gifts in wills, go to the HMRC website (for UK only).

The best way to ensure that your gift will be of the greatest help to people with lung conditions is to leave your gift for general charitable purposes. This gives us the flexibility we need to continue our varied work and projects. However, we understand that you may want to restrict your gift to be used for a particular condition or area of our work. If so, please let your solicitor or will writer know when they write your will.

When writing or executing a will, you may come across some unfamiliar legal or financial terms. Read our Legacy glossary where we’ve defined some legal and financial terms relating to gifts in wills.
